Doune Castle AFC 0-1 Steins Thistle AFC
A nervy game that saw the home team dominate early proceedings with superior possession play and in truth it took Steins some time to get a handle on Doune’s attacking prowess.
Some threatening balls into the box resulted in a header coming off the post and it was only some fine goalkeeping from man of the match Callum Gray and sterling defensive work from star performer Keiran Hall that kept the scores level.
However Steins upped the ante in the second half with Johny Harrison in particular causing the home side all sorts of problems and it was the ferocious press of the away side that created the opportunity for Ryan Wilson to come in off the side and drill the only goal of the game inside the near post.
At this point Doune threw men forward and therefore the introduction of Ryan Laidlaw as another centre back was crucial to see the game out.
Big performers for Steins were Dominic McGrandles who showed his class again plus the centre back pairing of Ammo and Fabio were crucial as always.
An unbelievable win that proves again what a tough but we are to crack so well done to all the players, committee and thanks to all our supporters who came along to help get us over the line against a very good side.
